Örebro County Council, Regional Development and the Association of Local Authorities in Örebro County, together with all 12 municipalities in the county, set up a municipal council for regional development on January 1, 2006. The name is the Örebro Regional Development Council.Regional development
The Regional Council is the members' body for co-operation in regional development issues and for securing democratic acceptance of the regional development work. The Council will work to ensure that the organisations in Örebro County that are working with regional development issues co-ordinate their activities. In this context the Council will organise arenas where different regional players can meet to develop ÖrebroCounty and to introduce new discussion and meeting forms that stimulate creative problem-solving. The Council will also conduct external monitoring and examine the development of know-how in the areas for which the Council is responsible.
Tasks
The other tasks of the Council include, from 2007, taking over state tasks which today are handled by the county administrative board. This applies, for example, to formulating programmes for the development of the county which the municipalities and the county council intend to run in co-operation with other parties and to co-ordinate development in the county in order to implement the programme. The Regional Council will also decide on the use of certain government funds for regional development and on prioritisation among infrastructural measures etc. when drawing up county plans for the regional infrastructure.
Follow up measures
The Council has also been commissioned by the government to follow up measures and the effects of development throughout the county by submitting an annual report to the government. The Council will also perform the other duties which the state, through special laws and ordinances, could in the future impose on the council as a co-ordinating body. The Regional Council's operations comprise mainly duties within industrial development, tourism, communications, infrastructure, the labour market, life-long learning, social welfare, environment and community development, international co-operation, culture and leisure/recreation. The work is politically led through the Regional Council and is carried out with the aid of a staff of 60 under the leadership of a regional director.
