Once upon a time there was a small town by a ford. The town was given the name Örebro. Today that little town has become a diverse, modern and quite large town. It has retained the small-town sense of what´s important in life, combined with a range of entertainment and shopping worthy of a major city. It has been said that Örebro has more pavement restaurants than Paris. The people of Örebro love to sit outside as the last autumn leaves fall and are out there again as soon as the trees produce their first hint of green.Medieval Castle
The constantly shifting surface of the Svartån river gives the town its character and frames the jewel that is Örebro Castle. This beautiful medieval fortress is everything a castle should be. The home of the county governor, its vaulted cellars house a restaurant and there´s always something going on all year round. The castle is also central to “Örebro 2010", the town´s celebration of the 200th anniversary of French marshal Bernadotte being elected heir to the Swedish throne right here in Örebro.Riverside Walk
From the castle park a beautiful riverside walk leads to Stadsparken, constantly ranked as one of the most beautiful parks in Sweden. There are more stunning views to be enjoyed if we follow the river on down to Lake Hjälmaren where the waterside café Naturens Hus is a perfect spot for a coffee or a bite to eat. Naturens Hus is also a nature centre, with plenty to teach us about life in this aquatic environment. Over on the other side of town, Gustavsvik water park, one of Sweden´s largest visitor attractions, is not to be missed. Why not round off your visit with a trip to the top of Svampen — Örebro´s water tower is a feat of engineering and a popular destination.Read more at:
